In October 2025, the THUNDER project participated in the 8th Energy Storage Europe Global Conference in Brussels, with project partner Euroheat & Power representing the consortium. The event brought together experts from across the energy sector to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest innovations in energy storage technologies.
During the conference, THUNDER presented its work on developing sustainable waste heat recovery and seasonal energy storage solutions for urban data centres. By recovering excess heat and supplying it to nearby district heating networks while simultaneously providing cooling services to data centres, the project demonstrates how integrated energy systems can contribute to more efficient and low-carbon cities.
A key focus of the presentation was THUNDER’s thermochemical material-based storage technology. Using specially selected materials, these systems significantly increase energy storage capacity through enhanced heat and mass transfer while reducing thermal losses to near-zero, enabling highly efficient long-term heat storage.
The conference also provided an excellent opportunity to engage with stakeholders from across the energy value chain. The strong interest in THUNDER’s innovative approach highlighted the growing demand for sustainable energy storage solutions and reinforced the importance of collaboration in bringing cutting-edge research from concept to real-world implementation.
