THUNDER Talks Episode 3: Exploring Innovative Solutions for Waste Heat Recovery and Energy Storage

The THUNDER project is starting 2026 with a new episode of the THUNDER Talks podcast, exploring the innovative technologies that can support a more sustainable and efficient energy future.

In Episode 3, host Evan Bernardi from Euroheat & Power is joined by Luca Socci from the University of Florence to discuss the development and testing of advanced energy solutions combining thermochemical energy storage with high-temperature heat pumps.

The episode highlights how THUNDER is addressing one of the key challenges in waste heat recovery from data centres: the lack of direct connections between data centres and district heating and cooling (DHC) networks. Luca introduces the project’s innovative HeatonWheels solution, which enables the transport and utilisation of recovered heat, helping unlock new opportunities for integrating data centre waste heat into sustainable urban energy systems.

Through the THUNDER Talks series, the project continues to share insights into the technologies, challenges, and collaborations driving the transition towards more flexible and low-carbon heating and cooling solutions across Europe.
